A National Water Mission is constituted under the National Action Plan on Climate Change launched by Prime Minister in June 2008. The aim of National Water Mission is the conservation of water, minimizing the growth of wastage and ensuring its distribution both across and within states through integrated water resources development and management.
The five goals of the National Water Mission are:-
• Study of effects of climate change on availability of water resources through study of available data base
• Dissemination of information and creating awareness among citizens citizen and state action for water conservation and augmentation.
• Focused attention to vulnerable areas including over-harnessed areas.
• Increasing water use efficiency by 20%.
• Promotion of basin level integrated water resources management through optimum utilization of water resources.
