PRECIPITATION

India, receives of approx 120 cm of precipitation in a year as a rainfall. On volume basis this is 394.5 million hectare meter. The main source of precipitation is rainfall. Rainfall in entire country during monsoon is nearly 75% of the mean annual, while pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons the country receives almost same amount of rainfall about 10% to 11% of the mean annual. In January and February the country receives only about 3.5% of the mean annual rainfall and is mostly confined to Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, North West U.P., North Bengal and Assam.
