NASA’S researchers have studied 167 large lakes around the world and have found that global lake temperatures have increased more than one degree Celsius on an average over the last 25 years.
According to the researchers higher temperatures can interrupt the ecosystems because even small alteration in the lake temperatures can cause toxic algal blooms or major swings in the natural balance.
They found an average temperature swell of 0.45 degrees Celsius (0.81 F) per decade, but some lakes, especially in the areas of higher latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, acquired a warming rate of 1 degree Celsius (1.8 F) per decade. Warming was feeble in the tropics and the areas of the Southern Hemisphere.
